About This Instructor Site

This web site contains material to supplement and compliment the fifth edition
of the textbook Fundamentals of Hearing: An Introduction, William A. Yost, Emerald, 2006.
The site is intended primarily for teachers using the textbook.

This companion site is also available at the following beta location, an updated edition of this companion site.

Fundamentals of Hearing on InTouch 2.0

Both sites contain the following materials:

PowerPoint® Figure Presentations

PowerPoint® Figure Presentations of each figure (with a brief caption) in each Chapter of the book.
Each Chapter is a different PowerPoint® presentation and all of the figures contained in the 16 Chapters in the book are provided. Using these slides requires the use of Microsoft's® PowerPoint® software version 2003 or later.

Instructional Hints

Instructional Hints for each Chapter providing "tips" on things the instructor might consider in presenting the material in each Chapter.

Suggested Problems (with Answers)

Suggested Problems (with Answers) for the students are provided for each Chapter in the book.

Instructions for Using the PowerPoint® Demonstration Presentations

The Instructions for Using the Emerald PowerPoint® Demonstration Presentations provide a complete explanation for using the Demonstrations. A detail description of the material contained in each slide used in the Demonstrations is provided. These descriptions explain how the graphic, animation, movie, or sound sample helps explain the concept.
Data sheets for collecting data for some of the demonstrations are also provided.

PowerPoint® Demonstration Presentations

PowerPoint® Demonstration Presentations providing graphics, animations, movies, and sound to demonstrate and further explain most of the concepts presented in the book.
Demonstrations for each Chapter are a different PowerPoint® presentation. Some of the Demonstrations can be used by a class or an individual student to conduct small "experiments" which should provide simple data related to a topic covered in the book. Using these slides requires the use of Microsoft's®PowerPoint® software version 2003 or later. It is highly recommended that the user of these Demonstrations read the Instructions for Using the PowerPoint® Demonstration Presentations (see the previous option).

Note: Chapters 5 and 8 are zipped files which include: PowerPoint and AVI files. In order for these two avi files to run from PowerPoint they need to be on the same directory/folder as the PowerPoint. To do this, save the entire zipped file to your computer and extract the files to a folder.
