Brief description

ANKOS is a group of university libraries that have voluntarily banded together to share investment in resources of mutual interest. Any li- brary that joins at least one contract is a member of ANKOS. In 2006, 55 state and 23 private universi- ties together with public institutions and research centers are represented in ANKOS.

Introduction

ANKOS was established in 2000 with 12 member libraries and three database subscriptions. Faculty members at universities all over Turkey as well as the staff of some research institutions now have access to bibliographic and full-text databases in science, mathematics, social sciences, humanities, medicine, agriculture, business, education, informatics and computing, and engineering. ANKOS holds an Annual Meeting which all members and firms attend.

ANKOS takes its place alongside the world's library consortia as a member of the International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC), the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), the Southern European Libraries Link (SELL), and the international initiative COUNTER (Counting Online Usage of Networked Electronic Resources). Vendors interested in offering products to ANKOS should read the "Introduction of ANKOS to Vendors/Publishers."
