These pages are designed to help Emerald staff deploy new client sites to the Emerald InTouch client domain, emeraldintouch.com.

At the time of writing, two client sites exist:

• mdx.emeraldintouch.com
• kentz.emeraldintouch.com

To deploy a new site, e.g newsite.emeraldintouch.com please follow these steps

1. Request to IT/Claritas to create new sub-domain 'newsite.emeraldintouch.com' and ask that the new sub-domain points to IP address 83.138.175.85
2. From the site files for emeraldintouch.com open the file config.php
3. For the new site, include the following lines:
1. if($DomainName == "newsite.emeraldintouch.com")
   {
       include('NEWSITE_config.php');
   }
2. Save the file and upload to the site
   
4. Make a copy of the file 'Original Config.php' and rename the copy to the name referred to in step 3, e.g. NEWSITE_config.php
5. There are a number of modifications to make to the new confg file. Follow this link to discover the changes you need to make, and why InTouch Configuration File Changes for New Sites
6. The new site will require its own template for presenting the content and site according to particular design requirements.
7. The default template fiels are found in the site file in the folder /_templates/Default_template
8. Make a copy of this folder and paste the copy to the folder /_templates
9. Give the new folder a name. The name should be the same as the site, and is referred to from the modified config.php file you created in step 5.
10. To give the site some identity edit the CSS file, intouch.css
11. Should you wish to upload and include a logo file the file should be in the format .gif or .jpeg. The image file must be uploaded to the folder 'img/surround/'.
12. To include the new logo, open the file 'pageshell' from your new Template folder and change the reference to 'SpacesLogo.gif' to your new image filename.

Your new EmeraldInTouch site is ready. Upload the amended files to the appropriate new folders and test by visiting

For a new Installation you will see a screen annoucing the success of the datatabase creation procedures. Scroll to the bottom of the screen to click continue to open the site.

If Wiki pages are installed then you must make one final step. You must log in as the administrator. A new installation creates the user 'news', with the password 'password'.

 1.0           Review of actions from June meeting

Concluded that June follow-up had been completed, with the exception of some field research by David Lamond that will be available in the next few days. Other points covered under agenda items below.

 2.0           Emerald Gateway – confirmation of decision not to proceed? Inform Chris Milligan of rationale?

Confirmed the June decision not to proceed with Emerald Gateway. Amanda will brief Chris Milligan on the rationale for this.

 3.0           Asian Graduates Service

3.1              Review of discussions with David Weir, actions from David Lamond

Noted the outcomes of the interview with David Weir and the fieldwork being conducted in Thailand by David Lamond. Expressed thanks to both for their involvement. Discussed David Weir’s comments on the nature of the market and opportunities for Emerald.

3.2              Product positioning

Noted that the main strengths of the service would be Emerald’s brand and networks, yet concern was expressed that harm could be done to Emerald’s brand and core relationships by the nature of the service being proposed.

3.3              Involvement of stakeholder groups

Noted that the decision-making unit for students to study overseas is a complex one with extended family involvement and recommendations from favorite lecturers, etc.

3.4              Approach to Henry Nagel?

Examined two Websites produced by Henry Nagel’s organization, noting content and advertisers. Decided not to proceed and discuss issues with Henry Nagel, rationale: concerns re: Emerald’s brand and networks, concerns regarding the nature of the competition, concerns regarding cost/ risk versus benefit.

3.5              Approaches to other parties?

3.7              Next actions

 4.0              Climate Change & Environmental Impact

4.1              Review of discussions with Walter Leal (and support materials)

Discussed the interview with Walter Leal, identifying an understanding of specialist industry sectors, and taking along-term perspective as key.

4.2              Discussions with stakeholders – 1) organizations/ corporations (potential paying customers); 2) universities/ research institutions (contributors – content, “experts”); 3) associations & related (partners? – content, memberships, events)

Determined that the next steep would be an internal meeting involving Dr Keith Howard. That Emerald has a strategic objective to be the number one publisher in this area and that this will be the basis for the discussions. Elements are likely to involve: a model based on Management First combined with networking (on the InTouch and Research Connections model); re-purposing of content; acquisitions and journal launches in the area.

4.3              Product positioning

Strategically Emerald is seeking to be the world’s number one publisher in the field. In terms of future development, a Web 2.0 solution is envisaged that connects research with practice.

4.4              Next actions

A roundtable meeting will take place within a couple of weeks involving the senior management team and Dr Keith Howard.
